Welcome to the 2021-2022 school year!
During this upcoming school year, we expect to have a heavy focus on academic instruction, social-emotional health, supplementary academic courses, enrichment activities, career/college exploration, and extracurricular offerings. Our teachers are not just experts in their content areas. They, along with the staff in our building, provide a safe and caring environment, allowing students to experience positive adult-student relationships, striving to give our students a well-rounded experience, and offering students the tools they need in order to succeed in high school
Welcome to the 2021-2022 school year! After five years of serving as the assistant principal, I am both humbled and excited to be selected as the principal of Bath County Middle School.
Although I began my career as a high school English teacher, middle school is a place I have grown to love. Our students come to us in 6th grade still very much with the characteristics of elementary school students. In their three short years with us, we see them go through so many changes. They grow from children and mature into young adults.
Although there is a lot of concern about this year academically and socially, one thing we all know is that kids are resilient. They do well with change. This year, there are a number of positive changes taking place at BCMS. Our building has seen a number of improvements, including an outdoor eating area and planned changes to the seating in our cafeteria. The class schedule will allow students to get what they need instructionally and provide a structure that will, in the future, allow students some choice in elective and enrichment options. We have had a number of new faculty and staff, who will provide more opportunities for our students.
In addition, during this upcoming school year, we expect to have a heavy focus on academic instruction, social-emotional health, supplementary academic courses, enrichment activities, career/college exploration, and extracurricular offerings. Our teachers are not just experts in their content areas. They, along with the staff in our building, provide a safe and caring environment, allowing students to experience positive adult-student relationships, striving to give our students a well-rounded experience, and offering students the tools they need in order to succeed in high school and beyond, whether students choose to enter college, career training, or the workforce.
Upon entering the school for my interview five years ago, I could feel what a special and welcoming place BCMS was. That feeling has not left. It is also what I want our students, our parents and guardians, our faculty and staff, and our community to feel when they enter our doors. All of us are here for the same purpose: we want to see our students succeed.

Welcome to the 2019/20 School Year
Dear Students and Parents/Guardians of Bath County Middle School,
Welcome to the BCMS family! Thank you for visiting our website to learn more about our Bath County Middle School community. We are so excited for the 2019-20 school year! Our staff is working hard to prepare engaging and rewarding learning experiences for all students. We look forward to seeing our returning 7th and 8th grade families, and we are excited to get to know our new 6th grade families. At BCMS, we place a high value on our partnership with parents, families, and community and we invite you to be an active part of helping students to achieve their full potential.
We consider it a privilege to work with your kids every day to help them be their very best selves. We believe that each and every student has a gift to share with the world, and we work hard to unlock their highest potential. We have high expectations of our students, and we have high expectations of ourselves to help all BCMS students learn and grow into well-rounded citizens and critical thinkers. BCMS aims to develop leadership skills, social and emotional skills, and academic skills to prepare students for success not only in middle school but also in high school, career, relationships, and life-long learning.
Bath County students will be taught to view themselves as learners and to think about what it looks like to be a good learner and thinker. Critical thinking and problem-solving skills are as important as content knowledge. According to a recent Department of Labor report, 65% of students will be employed in jobs that do not yet exist, so it will be important for all students to acquire the analytical, evaluative, and creative skills to apply such thinking toward becoming successful in the jobs of the future.
To help your student be successful in middle school, help them understand what is required of them to be a good learner inside and outside of the classroom. Talk about qualities and learning behaviors such as: taking positive risks, viewing errors as opportunities, working to recover from a mistake, giving and receiving feedback, asking questions, collaborating with peers, setting goals, planning with a purpose, and tracking their own progress. Students need both high challenge and high support to grow as learners, and we look forward to helping students maximize their growth at BCMS.
Please continue to visit our website, Facebook page, and daily announcements for updates throughout the year. If you have questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to contact us. You can reach me at todd.neace@bath.kyschools.us or 606-674-8165. We invite you to be our partners in our work. We look forward to working with families to accomplish great things for our students!
Sincerely,

Another new year begins-welcome 2019! I hope everyone has had a chance to relax and enjoy some quality time with family and friends over the Holiday Season. The start of school, after a significant break, always provides a good opportunity to re-establish a focus on learning. It seems like The teachers' contact information is on our web site so if you have any questions please do not hesitate to contact them. Parent involvement is always welcome and the key to successful students. The custodians and maintenance staff have done an excellent job of making our school look great for our return. We have asked our staff to let students know how much we appreciate this work by asking students to:
- Place garbage in the appropriate containers *Keep lockers clean
- Report any spills or damage to a staff member
- Clean the cafeteria tables when finished with their lunches
As we speed our way through the second semester we will have many activities that will head our way for our students, so if you would like to keep up with all that's going on at school we have many opportunities to get connected. If you do not receive the daily announcements please email Tracye Botts and she can add you to our list. Also, you can follow us on social media we have Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram. Finally, we would like to thank you for trusting us with your children! They are the reason we are here and look forward to seeing them each day!

Dear BCMS School Community Member,
The first part of the 2017-2018 year has gone by quickly, and it has been both an exciting and a sad time. Parents have met with their children’s teachers during parent conferences at the beginning of the year. Our school has completed our first quarter and is well into our second. Our wonderful teachers and students have wrapped their arms around several of our students who have been struck by tragedy this school year and have raised funds and provided much needed support for these children.
As we reflect on the many things for which we are thankful, I want to take this opportunity to share just a few of them with you: We are thankful for our students who come to school every day ready to learn, the citizenship they display to make Bath County Middle School such a wonderful learning community, and the way they reach just a bit higher each day to improve themselves – they give us all a daily reminder of what is important and why we are here. We are thankful for the support of the parents in creating an outstanding partnership for our students. We are thankful for the teachers, assistants, health aides, bus drivers, secretaries, nurses, lunchroom aides, support staff, therapists and administrators who really care about student achievement and have the best interests of our students at heart. We are also thankful for our volunteers who enthusiastically contribute so much to our school.
In these most difficult and challenging times, we see dedicated and tireless individuals going above and beyond to make sure that great things happen in our school. They do make a difference, and the children, in their own individual ways, benefit from those efforts.
Most importantly, we are thankful for the parents that have kept the faith in us. They continue to share their most valuable possession with us and—in most cases— work hard and advocate to be a partner in their children’s education, safety and well-being. For this, we are ever so thankful.
I would like to wish all of you and your families a happy, healthy and relaxing Thanksgiving holiday!
Sincerely,
Warm regards,
Mr. R. Todd Neace
Principal
